Hundred-year-old home boasts light, open modern kitchen while retaining period charm.
Challenge: Brighten and open up kitchen using existing spaces, add all new full-size appliances and sink large enough for cookie sheets, and make it not look like a remodel.
Design Solutions:
- Flooded kitchen with light through removal of wall between kitchen and sun porch and through installation of larger windows, recessed fluorescent down lights, under-cabinet task lights, and period-style milk glass pendants.
- Repeated existing period finishes like bead board, painted walls and cabinetry, and oak plank floors.
- Customized cabinetry layout with multi-sided access to optimize storage, accommodate maximum-size appliances, and provide a pass-through, bar-height dining counter to take advantage of new weatherproofed, step-down sun/media room.
